A 'Reel' Problem

Each year thousands of birds and marine animals are killed or injured in Australia due to poorly discarded fishing line and tackle.

WHAT IS THE TACKLE BIN PROJECT

Every year in Australia, thousands of birds and other wildlife are injured or killed when they encounter fishing tackle that was carelessly dropped on the ground instead of being disposed of safely in a bin.

Tackle bins offer a handy solution for unwanted fishing line and tackle. These specially designed bins keep tackle safely secured and allow it to be disposed of properly, as well as increasing awareness of the need for safe disposal.

The Tackle Bin Project was initiated in March 2017. Thirteen bins (designed in the state colour maroon) were installed at popular land based fishing locations on the Gold Coast as part of an initial Queensland trial. By November, we had collected 25km of fishing line and over 1500 fishing hooks!

Have you considered setting up a Tackle Bin Project in your local community? We have put all our resources on here to get you started. Which community is going to join us next?
